Wurdemann's Heron tending its nest:
Coloration differences between the Great Blue Heron and the Wurdemann's include a much whiter head with white plumes instead of the stark black. Also, if you compare the underbelly soft downy feathers..these are white compared the the same area on the bird in image 182 on this page. The black shoulder patches are also different being mixed with black, white and rust feathers. The big herons are always lovely to see. The Great Blue, Great White, and Wurdemann's were once considered different species but today are recognized as the same.
